The game in actual fact is just a game of luck. A baccarat player need only decide whether to bet on the player or bankers hand, or on a tie.  That being said, there is no actual optimal strategy, as there are not any decisions to be made when the cards are dealt.

After you have wagered on either the banker hand, player hand or a tie, the dealer and player are initially dealt two cards apiece.  Whichever hand that comes closest to a total of 9 wins.  The value of each hand is scored by adding together the card values, except taking away ten from the total every time it’s ten or higher. As an example, a 4 and a 7 total 11, which equals a hand total of 1 after removing 10.  Aces are worth 1, and face cards at 0.

Bets made on the players hand pay 1 to 1, same with the dealers – however a small commission is taken on winning banker bets.  Bets on ties pay 9 for 1 – not great odds mathematically.

Whenever the first 2  cards given out total 9 or 8, the hand is referred to as a “natural” and no additional cards are given to each hand.  If neither hand is a “natural”, extra cards are drawn based on house rules.

As there are not any actual judgements to be made by the player other than the original bet, there are really no tactics that can be applied, asides from possibly card counting and making a bet accordingly.
